Final Overall Wrap up

This will be my last blog entry and basically it as about how much I have learned throughout this whole blogging project and class in general. Like I have stated previously, before this class, I did not know too much about the Internet or blogging. Throughout this semester my knowledge has skyrocketed. I actualy had a good time adding my thoughts and information that I personally thought was valuable to the web. I know that the information that I have learned will help me throughout my business career.

Google Adsense

I finally figured out Google Adsense also. I have submitted my application to have the adsense on my website. They said they they would review my information and place it on my website in 1-2 days. I had to resort to this methid of adding Google Adsense becuase everytime I tried to add it through the "Add a page element" process it told me that an internal error had occured.

LATEEEE stiuqxela

I know that This is super late but better late than never. stiuqxela
I had trouble figuring it out earlier, but I finallly got it...I think.

Wikipedia Wrap Up

Before this class started I barely had any knowledge of the Wikipedia web site, however, after this project I feel pretty comfortable with it. It was interesting to add information which I thought others would find interesting to the web site, and then have that information be available to millions of people across the world. I was annoyed at how quick some of my information was removed from the website. However, there are several posts that I made which are still on each of the articles from weeks ago. It is good to know that at least someone values the information that I put up.

Individually, my Wu-Tang wikipedia article kept two edits. Those referring to the Wu-Tang Manual, and also the Think Differently Music additions. My fishing article kept my link to the National Fishing and Wildlife hyperlink. My surfing article kept my added hyperlink to Global Surfing News. Finally, my Palm Beach Gardens article kept the most additions, including my hyperlink to the local weather, my addition informing visitors about the local medical center, and also my final addition about the Palm Beach Zoo.

Final Fishing Update

This is my final wikipedia update regarding Fishing. This was by far the hardest wikipedia article out of my 4 to find new material to add. I had a tough time thinking of something interesting to add to the page. After some time, I decided that I would add a link to the National Division of Fishing and Wildlife. This site gives an overview of the proper procedures and practices to be used while fishing. I think it is a good thing to have on in the article. The link to the updated article is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishing Fishing is a great sport and people should learn to follow all of the laws and rules associated with it. They are only in place to make sure that the fish we are catching will continue to be there for generations to come.

Final Wu-Tang Wiki Post

This is my final Wikipedia post regarding the music group Wu-Tang Clan. For this edit, I decided to add information on a subculture of Wu Tang called Think Differently Music Group. Basically, it can be described as Wu-Tang meeting the Indie Culture. It is an unprecedented pairing of Wu-Tang artists, producers and affiliates with some of independent hip-hop's East and West Coast elite. The link to the updated wiki article is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu-tang_clan#Think_Differenty_Music Hope everyone likes it.

Final P.B. Gardens Wiki Post

This is my third and final wikipedia post regarding Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For this edit, I decided to add something which may attract visitors to the city. There was little information on attractions, or fun activities for people visiting to do, so I added information on the Palm Beach Zoo. I added the days that they are open, which is almost everyday, 363 days a year, and also the different types of animals that you can experience there. I hope that this will help attract more people to this beautiful city. The link to the update is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_Beach_Gardens%2C_FL. The link to the Palm Beach Zoo is http://www.palmbeachzoo.org/ Enjoy!

Commenting on Drew Turner's Blog

While viewing this classmates blog I found several interesting articles and page elements which I spent some time looking over. Drew had a picture of himself playing for the school's lacrosse team, which I though was pretty cool. This persuaded me to both include a picture on my page, and also to comment on his article about the UD lacrosse team's recent success this season. His article was about how the team has recently won a big game against the University of Virgina in the first round of the NCAA playoffs. The team is looking to make a trip to the schools first ever Fina Four. This would be an amazing thing for both the players and the school to achieve. The only thing standing in their way is a game this Sunday vs. UMBC, or University of Maryland Baltimore County. I have a good feeling we will come out victorious, as I know how hard the players have worked all season. The link to Drew's blog is http://turnerspring07.blogspot.com/

Web Page Structure

This post is in reference to materials that we have covered in class. I found one of the last topics that we covered this semester, both very interesting, and also actually potentially useful for my personal life. This was the topic of web page design focusing on HTML code. I was always very intimidated by the complex look of the HTML code, but after our class i have a much stronger understanding of the subject. Some of the codes which I may use in future web site design include: Making a header, including body text, Making specific tags such as new paragraphs, new lines, numbered and unnumbered lists, and finally including hyperlinks. I can really see myself taking this knowledge and applying it to whatever job I eventually begin working at.

SEO

This post is in reference to material that we have covered in class. One topic this semester which I found especialy interesting was Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. I was previously unaware that there were so many diferent things that you could do to a web site to make it operate more efficiently. Some of these include: Identifying relevant keywords, Matching your page to these keywords, including a title tag, increasinf the number of inbound links the page contains, and also paying attention to the anchor text that the inbound links contain. I was also impressed with the in class speaker we had on the subject. His company, SEO by the SEA is a great example of how technology is flourishing in our day of age.

Your Fired

This article is from one of our required blog list. While looking through scoblizer's articlelist, I found an interesting article about Microsoft and how they have just spent $ 6 Billion dollars for an online advertising firm called aQuantim Inc. This is a firm that builds ads and marketing for companies. The goal here could be to increase their audience base, as the article states that they do not have control of the majority of software users, as they had in the past. I think that this is probably a good idea, as the use of the internet and online marketing is only going to keep growing and expanding in the future. If you want to read more into this article the link is http://scobleizer.com/2007/05/18/microsoft-smacks-down-6-billion-for-online-advertising-firm/. Enjoy

Crock ATTACK!

This update is from our required blog list. I found a shocking article while browsing through some of National Geographic's articles. The article was about a recent crocodile attack on a veteranarian at a Taiwan zoo. On April 11th, while the vet was trying to feed the crocodile, it snapped and attacked her, biting off her forearm. The attack brought light to the terrible conditions and uninformed staff that the zoo was operating under. The article ststed that the staff didnt even know what kind of crocodile it was untill after the attack. This is very shocking to me especially becuase it happened in Taiwan's 2nd largest city. There are some pretty gruesome pictures which were taken by media and zoo visitors that day. The link to the article is http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/05/070518-crocodile-zoo.html. Dont click if you have a weak stomach!

Surfing Update #2

This update is to inform viewers of this wikipedia site that one of the Profassional World Tour events for this year has been cancelled. The event that was cancelled was the Globe event which was to take place in Fiji. The main problem was securing insurance. This is due to the fact that Fiji has recently been places on the U.S. government's travel advisory list, citing "a high level of risk" including terrorist attacks or a volitile and unpredictable security situation. The link to this site is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfing

Fishing Update #2

This update was about an interesting fishing fact that I stumbled onto while browsing the internet. The fact stated that pregnant women can help their children develop better memory skills and learning abilities by eating fish. The fish that can really help develop these skills include salmon, tuna, and sardines. The link to the wikipedia site is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishing

Wu-Tang Manual

This is my second update to the Wu-Tang Clan wikipedia site. This update involves a book put out by one of the groups key members, RZA. The Wu-Tang Manual is The RZA’s first written introduction to the philosophy and history of Hip-Hop’s original Dynasty, the Wu-Tang Clan. I personally own this book and would recomend it to any Wu-Tang fans. The link to the wikipedia site is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu-tang_clan

Gardens Medical Center

This is my second post regarding my Palm Beach Gardens wikipedia updates. I felt that adding information on the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center could be beneficial to the sites viewers. I added the services that the Medical Center offers. These services include: Cardiac Care, Emergenct Care, Orthopedics, and Rehab services. The link to the wikipedia site is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_Beach_Gardens%2C_FL

Fish Frenzy

This blog is regarding the wikipedia site on Fishing. I spent some time reading this site, as there is a great deal of information posted here, and was able to find one thing which the editor's seem to have left out. The question of: What is the largest fish ever caught? I was able to recover the answer to this question after some research, and found that the answer was the Whale Shark. In 1919, a specimen measuring 59 feet was captured in the Gulf of Thailand. Not coincidentally, the Whale Shark is considered the largest species of fish, as adults often grow to be 45 feet long and can weigh up to 15 tons. Hope this clears up any confusion that fellow fishermen may have regarding the subject...The link to the site is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishing
Thanks!

Weather tracking

This update is to notify everyone of an update made to the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida wikipedia page. Upon viewing the site and looking for missing information, i realized that there was no real discussion of the weather that the locals enjoy. I decided to post a link to weather.com's updated site to keep everyone informed. I live in this ciry and hope that once readers view the great conditions they will book a flight to relax and enjoy the sun firsthand. The like to the wikipedia site is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_Beach_Gardens%2C_FL Thank You!

ROCK THE BELLS

This blog update is in reference to a wikipedia edit about one of my favorite rap groups, The Wu-Tang Clan. While browsing their current wikipedia site, I realized that there was no information on any upcoming concerts that they would be performing in. I have recently purchased tickets to a huge show they will be headlining this summer in New York, and felt that others should know about it. I hope that this will help to spread their music to others. The link to the wikipedia web site is...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Tang_Clan. Thanks!

I forgot to post a hyperlink toe's a Anne's article in my previous blog. If you would like to view her blog, the link is http://annebuad477.blogspot.com/index.html

Team member blog discussion (h)

This blog will discuss an article which I viewed from one of my class mates blogs. I am in grop H along with Anne, who's article on a possible IPod Tax caught my eye. Her article was found on slashdot and stated that a Canadian Copright group wants a tax to be placed on all Ipods. The tax would cost $75 and would be pllaced on all deviced over 30G. Items such as memory cards will also be taxed. The theory is this, the purpose of the tax is to componsate for the "illegal" download and storage of music on these devices. Peronally I hope that this tax does not get put into place, becuase I enjoy downloading music and having it with me on my Ipod. I will keep checking my group members blogs for any other interesting articles.

Marketing Research Online

This blog post is my second referencing materials covered in class. Throughout this blog I will talk about Maketing reaserch Online and why it is important. When searching for information the internet is a perfect place to look. It is a gold mine of information, and with search engines such as Google, finding information is only getting easier. While performing online research you have both primary and secondary resources to consider. Some online sites for finding these online resources are: ClickZ, Wikipedia, and PEW. Finding Primary research is also important. Primary research can comprise a variety of methods. Focus groups and surveys are key methods that have been further enabled by the internet. Examples of online focus group providers include: iTrack and e-FocusGroups. Chatrooms and discussion boards are also useful tools for activities such as brainstorming. Basically Online research is a very important tool for marketers to use, and should be utalized to its fullest advantage.

VIACOM vs. GOOGLE

This blog posting is referencing material we have covered in class. Last week we had an in class discussion on the legal showdown over copyright protection between Viacom and Google which I found very interesting. I was on the side of Google for this feud, which was basically about Viacom filing a $1 Billion lawsuit against YouTube, which is owned by the Google Company. Viacom, who owns channels like MTV and Comedy Central claims that clips of "South Park" and "The Colbert Report" have ben viewed over 1.5 Billion times, with no revenue coming to Viacom.

Being on the side of Google I had some arguments about the law suit coming from Viacom. First off, allowing the clips of the television shows could actually be helpful for Viacom. Allowing the clips to be seen anywhere can help generate a "buzz" for the shows and possibly increse their fan base. This increased fan base would boost ratings and generate a profi for Viacom. Additional viewers could also potentially spend money on season DVD's ect. One final argument, is that the $1 Billion being asked for is wayy too much money. If they want to have a chance of winning this law suit they need to seriousl decrease their asking price

Hyperlink

I forgot to include a hyperlink in my last blog posting referencing the Google article found on Slashdot. For those who would like to view the article it can be found at http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/02/28/0139222&from=rss
Enjoy.

Google Ads Are a Free-Speech Issue

I found this article from browsing some articles on Slashdot. Basically the article stated that an individual from North Carolina had sued both Microsoft and Google becuase the search engine displayed his advertisement concerning fraud in North Carolina. He demanded that under the 14th Ammendment, the search engines remove the advertisement. However, the US Federal Court recently ruled that ads displayed by search engines are protected as free speech. I found this article interesting becuase it is just another example of the constant scrutiny that Google is under.

Huge Underground "Ocean" Found Beneath Asia

While browsing through some of the articles that I have subscribed to, I found one which was very interesting. According to National Geographic, scientists have reported the discovery of a huge giant blob of water the size of Antartica beneath Asia. However, this water is not all liquid. It is composed of moisture-containing rocks 400 to 800 miles beneath the surface. The vast size of this "ocean" is large enough to produce a lage amount of water. The link to the aricle is http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070227-ocean-asia.html?source=rss

Van's Triple Crown of Surfing

This post is about my first wikipedia edit, which as you can see by the title had to do with the Van's Triple Crown of Surfing. While reviewing the Surfing article on wikipedia, I realized there was no information regarding the recent results of the 2007 final standings. I felt this would be helpful to the articles viewers, as the winner is commonly thought of as the best in the world for the time period.
The 2007 standings were as follows:1. Andy Irons 2. Joel Parkinson 3. Mick Fanning 4. Fredrick Patacchia 5. Taj Burrow 6. Luke Stedman 7. Cory Lopez 8. Bruce Irons 9. Kelly Slater

I hope this helps new viewers of the article which can be viewed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfing keep up on their surfing knowledge.

This is my second blog post. Today is February the 19th, and although the weather has warmed up a bit, it is still pretty cold outside. I plan to use the cold weather to my advantage however, as snowboarding is a hobby of mine.
